Eligibility/ Entitlement

Warranties apply only in the country or region where you acquire the Machine, unless IBM specifies otherwise, and only to Machines you purchase for your use, and not for resale, from IBM or your reseller. To obtain warranty service for a Machine, contact IBM or your reseller. If you do not register your Machine with IBM, you may be required to present proof of purchase

Machine

An IBM "Machine" (hardware product) means an IBM machine, its features, conversions, upgrades, elements, or accessories, or any combination of them. It does not include, for example, software programs, whether pre-loaded, installed subsequently, or otherwise.

Machine Model

The three-digit number assigned to the Machine. The model differentiates functional or specification levels within the Machine Type (example AG1).

Machine Type

The four-digit number assigned to the Machine (example 9483).

Post Warranty ServicePac (PW)

On specified equipment, ServicePac – warranty and maintenance options can also provide additional years of service on your hardware once the standard warranty has expired or when your existing ServicePac has expired. These are the Post Warranty options (PW) which you will find in the price listings.

Serial Number

Each IBM Machine Type/Model contains a 7 digit Serial Number (example - 66-00001). The Serial Number is specific to each Machine.

ServicePac

IBM ServicePacs are warranty upgrade and maintenance options which enhance the service levels provided under your IBM hardware’s standard warranty. These are typically 3, 4 and 5 year ServicePacs and typically must be registered within 30 days of the purchase of your IBM machine (s).

Warranty Period

The Warranty Period, (i.e., three months, one year, etc.) which is the duration of the warranty, starts on the machine's Date of Installation. The date on your sales receipt is the Date of Installation unless IBM or your reseller informs you otherwise.

What IBM will Do to Correct Problems

When you contact IBM for service, you must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that IBM specifies. An initial diagnosis of your problem can be made either by a technician over the telephone or electronically by access to an IBM website.
